God led me to a chapter in the Bible one morning, and this phrase came to me: “The Word of God is a sword. Keeping it is a great reward.”
It is not enough to simply speak the Word, read the Word, or meditate on the Word. We must hold onto it and never let go when the challenges of life become heavy in order to receive our reward.
Love the Lord With Your Whole Heart
Psalm 18:1 NLT
“I love you, Lord; you are my strength.”
John 14:15–17 NLT
“If you love me, obey my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth.”
Loving God is more than words. True love for God is shown through obedience, trust, surrender, and dependence on Him. When we love Him with our whole heart, He strengthens us and gives us the Holy Spirit to guide us into truth.
Lean and Depend on God
Psalm 18:2–6 NLT
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. I called on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies.
The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. But in my distress I cried out to the Lord; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears.”
God wants us to lean on Him completely. He is our refuge, protector, and strong tower. Even when life feels overwhelming and we are surrounded by trouble, God hears every cry and responds to those who trust Him.
Hold Onto the Word of God to Keep You From Falling
Psalm 18:20–27 NLT
“The Lord rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence. For I have kept the ways of the Lord; I have not turned from my God to follow evil. I have followed all his regulations; I have never abandoned his decrees.
I am blameless before God; I have kept myself from sin. The Lord rewarded me for doing right. He has seen my innocence.
To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud.”
Holding onto God’s Word keeps us from falling into fear, sin, discouragement, and unbelief. God rewards those who remain faithful and continue walking in His ways even during difficult seasons.
Don’t Quit — Keep Going Until the End
Psalm 18:37–40 NLT
“I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered. I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet.
You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet.”
God gives strength to those who refuse to quit. No matter what opposition comes, we must continue trusting God, standing on His Word, and pressing forward until victory comes.
Reflection
God is teaching me more and more to rely on Him and no one else. My faith has been strengthened, and God is taking me from faith to faith and glory to glory. I have been meditating on Psalm 34 to bless the Lord at all times, believing that God will deliver me out of every affliction as I trust in Him.
Prayer
God, thank You for being my rock, strong tower, and safe place to run to. I hold onto Your Word so that I will not fall. I repent for trusting in other people, things, and my own strength instead of fully trusting You.
Help me to keep going until the end so I may receive my reward. Thank You, Lord, for always causing me to triumph through You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
