Don’t Wait: Pursue and Overtake

Pursue

  1. To follow in order to overtake, catch, defeat, or obtain
  2. To seek after or employ measures to accomplish something
  3. To move forward with intention
  4. To actively engage in
  5. To continue without stopping

Overtake

  1. To catch up with and pass by
  2. To come upon suddenly

I was watching the movie Facing the Giants, and this phrase dropped into my spirit: “Don’t wait—pursue and overtake.”

God has already equipped us. He has given us gifts, dreams, His Word, the Holy Spirit, anointed teachers and leaders, and examples of those who have succeeded. Because of this, we truly have no excuse for not walking in everything God has for us.

We carry the power to manifest heaven on earth—but it requires action.

Avoid Procrastination

James 4:14,17 (NLT)
“How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone… Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.”

Proverbs 27:1
“Never brag about what you will do in the future, for you have no idea what tomorrow will bring.”

Delaying what God has called you to do doesn’t just slow you down—it can cost you opportunities. Start now.

Be Consistent

Galatians 6:9
“Let us not grow weary or become discouraged in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap, if we do not give in.”

Consistency is what turns small steps into major breakthroughs. Keep going—even when you don’t see immediate results.

Be Patient

Hebrews 6:12 (NIV)
“We do not want you to become lazy, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised.”

Philippians 4:6–7 (NKJV)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God… will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Patience isn’t passive—it’s preparation. God develops you in the waiting.

Focus on God and the End Result

Hebrews 12:2
“We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith…”

Stay focused. Distractions will come, but your strength is found in keeping your eyes on Him and the promise ahead.

Reflection

Get started.
Don’t stop—no matter how challenging it becomes.
Be patient—it’s developing you.
Stay focused on God and the end result.

Then watch this: you will reach your destination—suddenly.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for perfecting everything that concerns me. Through faith, patience, consistency, and focusing on You, I will reach my destination speedily. Thank You that You always cause me to triumph through You.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Before You Go…

If today’s message encouraged you, I invite you to take the next step.
