The phrase came while at my church where the pastor spoke on resting in God. We all go through storms and everyday challenges. However, God’s love carries us through to the other side. There was a song when I was little that we sang at summer camp the lyrics said ” With Christ in your life you can smile at the storm when you’re sailing home.” As believers, we have Christ in us, the hope of glory.
Do not panic trust God and speak in faith the word of God.
Mark 4 :35-41 NLT: 35 As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.” 36 So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed). 37 But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.38 Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?”39 When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. 40 Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”41 The disciples were absolutely terrified. “Who is this man?” they asked each other. “Even the wind and waves obey him
Worship and praise God.
Psalm 16: 7-11 NKJV: 7 I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel;
My heart also instructs me in the night seasons.8 I have set the Lord always before me;
Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices;My flesh also will rest in hope.10 For You will not leave my soul in Sheol (dark/death), Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.11 You will show me the path of life;In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.
Be silent and listen for God.
Psalm 46:10 NIV: He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Rest (completely trust) in God.
Hebrews 4:2 NKJV: 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. 3 For we who have believed do enter that rest.
Hebrews 4: 8-10 NLT: 8 Now if Joshua had succeeded in giving them this rest, God would not have spoken about another day of rest still to come. 9 So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. 10 For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world. 11 So let us do our best to enter that rest. But if we disobey God, as the people of Israel did, we will fall.
Testimony: God is keeping me through the passing of my mom in July 2024 and my dad May 2025. God used my family/siblings around me, grief share groups, and God gave me Isaiah 52 to navigate through grief. The first few verses of the chapter say arise/get up, clothe yourself with the strength of God, free myself from the chains through worship, and that God is leading me out of bondage. God also told me I have to continue in the word so I can remain free. There are times when the emotions come to try to pull me back in. But, I renew my mind to the word of God, the dream my cousin had on my dad dancing in his new body, and the dream I had about my mom in her new body. It gives me relief that my parents are in heaven, full of joy and I know I will see them again. It motivates me to live out my purpose and go out strong and long.
Prayer: Thank you God for your Son Jesus who finished everything on the cross. I repent for living a restless life and doing things on my own. I sit at your feet, be still and know that you are God. I worship and praise you because in your presence is fullness of joy and everything I need. God I trust you and rest in your finished work. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
