When Going Through Hell, Say All Is Well
It is easy to become discouraged, rehearse our problems with others, or give up when we are going through difficult times. But Jesus understands what we go through because He took our pain, sickness, and sins upon Himself at the cross. Through His sacrifice, we have victory in every situation. All we must do is believe and receive what God has already done for us.
In 2 Kings 4:8–37, we read about the Shunammite woman and the miraculous restoration of her son. The Shunammite woman showed great honor to the prophet Elisha by welcoming him into her home whenever he came through town. Because of her kindness, Elisha desired to bless her.
Elisha learned that she had no son and that her husband was old. He told her that by the following year she would have a son. Though she was surprised and cautious about believing it, the prophecy came to pass just as Elisha said.
Years later, tragedy struck.
One day her son was working in the field with his father when he suddenly cried out, “Oh my head, my head!” The father told a servant to carry the boy to his mother. The Shunammite woman held her son in her arms until noon, and he died.
Imagine the pain of raising a child, loving that child, and then watching him die in your arms.
Yet the Shunammite woman did something powerful. Instead of surrendering to despair, she placed her son on the prophet’s bed and went to find the man of God.
Her husband asked why she was going to see Elisha since it was not a special religious day. She simply replied:
“It is well.”
Her faith was remarkable. Many of us would immediately begin calling family members or preparing for the worst. But even in the middle of tragedy, she declared that all was well.
When she arrived at Mount Carmel, Elisha’s servant ran to meet her and asked if everything was alright with her, her husband, and her child.
Again she replied:
“It is well.”
Even though she was in deep distress, she chose to speak faith rather than fear.
When she reached Elisha, she fell at his feet and expressed her grief. Elisha then went with her to the house. When he saw the child lying dead, he prayed to the Lord and stretched himself over the boy.
The scripture says the child sneezed seven times and opened his eyes. Elisha then called the Shunammite woman and told her to pick up her son. Her child had been brought back to life.
What an incredible testimony of faith.
From the Shunammite woman we learn an important lesson:
In the middle of painful situations, we must speak the Word of God and believe for the outcome He promised.
Take steps of faith. Surround yourself with people who believe God and will pray with you. You cannot share your faith journey with everyone, because some people may discourage you or hinder your faith.
Do not let anyone or anything stop you from receiving what God has promised you.
Because of the Shunammite woman’s faith, her son was restored.
All is well because Jesus took everything—sickness, sin, hurt, rejection, and lack—and nailed it to the cross.
So even when you feel like you are going through hell, declare by faith:
All is well.
Prayer
Father God, thank You for Your grace and mercy that endure forever.
Lord, I declare that all is well because of Jesus’ sacrifice for me.
Jesus went through suffering so that I could have victory.
Thank You for Your unfailing love and for the power of the cross.
No matter what trials I face, I will trust You and stand on Your Word.
Thank You, Jesus, for Your precious blood and for the victory I have in You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
