The phrase for the blog came from my dad as we were having a conversation talking about God. New toys, cars, houses, clothing, and other material things are exciting. However, it can also be scary, like starting a new career, new relationship, starting a business, being a new parent, etc. Yet, it is what pushes and develops us to the next level. We learn and grow. You never know what is in you until you are challenged and put to the test.
A great example is our spiritual father, Abraham. Genesis 12 Living Translation 12 God had told Abram, “Leave your own country behind you, and your people, and go to the land I will guide you to. 2 If you do, I will cause you to become the father of a great nation; I will bless you and make your name famous, and you will be a blessing to many others. 3 I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you, and the entire world will be blessed because of you.
In order to be a blessing to his family, Abraham had to get away from a familiar place into a new location. Abraham also obeyed what God told him, and he was blessed.
Another example was Ruth and Naomi. Ruth left Moab after her husband passed to move with her mother-in-law Naomi to Bethlehem. Orpah, Naomi’s other daughter-in-law, stayed in Moab. Ruth told Naomi your God would be my God, and your people will be my people. She knew God was with her mother-in-law. Moab was a wicked place. Ruth chose to go to a new place to serve the true and living God. Ruth was a hard worker, humble, obedient to Naomi, and took care of Naomi. Because of it, she was blessed with a wealthy husband, Boaz, who owned the field that Ruth was working in. Please read the book of Ruth. It gives excellent qualities of a virtuous woman.
Ruth’s family background was wicked. However, God blessed her because she chose to leave behind her past and dared to do something different. To go to the next level, sometimes you have to leave behind your old life for a better life. But, unfortunately, people and things can hold you back from God’s purpose for your life.
Something new is good for you!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your mercies that are new every morning. God, I leave behind my way of thinking by renewing my mind to the word of God. I repent for allowing fear and the familiar to keep me from progressing in you. I am willing and obedient, and I eat the good of the land. Thank you, God, that when I go through the fire, I will not be burned, and when I go through the waters, I will not drown because you are doing a new thing in me. Thank you, God, for taking me from faith to faith, glory to glory, and blessings on top of blessings. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
