Certain events in life can be unpleasant, hurtful, and unfair. The only way to get through it is by living a life of gratitude.
What does the word of God says about living a life of gratitude?
Romans 12:12 KJV: 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.
Phlippians 4:4-6 4 Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 2:14-15 Easy Read Version 14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in victory through Christ. God uses us to spread his knowledge everywhere like a sweet-smelling perfume.
No matter what we go through in life, we can be thankful because Jesus went through it and came out victorious. He uses the people of God as an example to others to give them hope That is enough to remain grateful because Jesus went through every pain and sorrow for us. All we have to do is go to God about everything and he will show us the way to victory.
For example you say, God I am going through __________ but I thank God that ___________. Then you begin speaking the word of God over the situation.
Thanksgiving is a life worth living!
Prayer: Lord, I thank you that no matter what I go through, I have the victory through Jesus. I repent for being ungrateful when things in life happens to me that doesn’t seem fair. I know that I can give thanks because I have hope through you. God, you sent your Son Jesus to die for me. He took everything for me on the cross which led Him to victory and that is enough to be grateful for. I choose to be thankful no matter what state I am in. Just you breathing life into me and an eternity with you is enough to be thankful for. Life is not perfect, but you are perfect. I give you the praise in Jesus name, Amen.
Essence Webster’s meaning: the quality and nature of a person or thing.
Last Sunday’s blog was about setting our affection towards things of God because it is eternal. Everything we need is in the presence of God. Are you tired of dealing with the same temptations? Are you tired of going through the motions? Do you want things to change in your life for the better? Spending time in the presence of God (worshiping, praising, meditating the word of God, and being silent). is the answer. It changes the quality and nature of our whole being.
Friday morning God lead me to Psalm 16. David was saying how he could do nothing without God, how he found refuge in God. David said God was his portion that he found security in God. He exalted God for instructing him in the night. My favorite part when David said in your presence is fullness of joy and pleasasures. Who wouldn’t want to spend time with someone like that?
In life we know evil can rub off on you easily than good does (1 Corinthians 15:33).Whoever/Whatever you spend time with the more you become like. Spending time in the presence of God removes off anything that is not good.
I learned from Psalm 16 that in the presence of God is safety. We develop His qualities/benefit. We develop His desire putting away idols. God gives counsel even while we are sleeping. When trouble comes, it doesn’t moves you. You are at peace. You rejoice and hope in God. Finally in His presence is fullness of joy and pleasures.
Being In God’s Presence, Changes Your whole Essence.
Prayer: God I glorify you because you are great. God I stay in your presence daily because I have everything I need in You. Nothing else can satisfy me like you can because it is everlasting. God I repent for not spending enough time with you and allowing things that are temporary get more of my attention. I choose to continue to spend time with you because it transforms everything around me for my good. I let God’s desire take me higher! I thank you in advance. In Jesus name, Amen.
The phrase from the blog was inspired by my dad as we were having a conversation about what is going on in this world today. Not everyone believes there is a heaven and hell. But, what if there is a heaven and a hell? Do you know where you would spend eternity? I would rather not gamble with my life like that. If you do not know Jesus, receive Him now (Romans 10:9-10).
Pastor Gaines has been dealing with the complete book of Revelation and it really makes me search myself. I want to be ready for God’s return, for we do not know the day or the hour when he will come. Matthew 25:13 Living translation says: So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not know the day or hour of my return.
Shifting our focus:
Colossians 3 Amplified version says:Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. 3 For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
Read the complete chapter of Colossians 3 to see what God expects for us as believers. God gives us all things to richly enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17). It is okay to enjoy nice things like entertainment, traveling, food, and people. However, our main focus is to live out the purpose God has for us and to draw people into the kingdom of God.
2 Peter 9 New Century Version: The Lord is not slow in doing what he promised—the way some people understand slowness. But God is being patient with you. He does not want anyone to be lost, but he wants all people to change their hearts and lives.
Thank God for His grace, patience, and mercy towards us. God loves us so much that He is giving us time to repent and live our lives for Him.
Galatians 6:8 says a person who sows to the flesh to the flesh will reap corruption and a person that sows to the spirit will receive eternal life and peace.
Remember according to Romans 7:18 in our flesh (our natural and sinful nature) dwells no good thing. Everything that is of God is good and we should go to him to examine our hearts.
Matthew 6:20 tells us to lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven because it is everlasting, not temporary where thieves can come in and take them.
One of my favorite hymns “Hold to God’s Unchanging Hands.” The lyrics are powerful; let them remind you of eternity.
Time is filled with swift transition, Naught of earth unmoved can stand, Build your hopes on things eternal, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Refrain: Hold to God’s unchanging hand, Hold to God’s unchanging hand; Build your hopes on things eternal, Hold to God’s unchanging hand.
Trust in Him who will not leave you, Whatsoever years may bring, If by earthly friends forsaken Still more closely to Him cling.
Covet not this world’s vain riches That so rapidly decay, Seek to gain the heav’nly treasures, They will never pass away.
When your journey is completed, If to God you have been true, Fair and bright the home in glory Your enraptured soul will view.
Set your affection, in the right direction!
Prayer: God, I magnify you because you are good even when I haven’t been good. God, I thank you for being patient with me even when I sin. Your love is better than a natural person’s love. You love us so much that you are giving us time to repent and live our lives for you. God, you sent your Son Jesus into the world not to condemn them, but that through His life and love for us, we would be saved according to John 3:17. God, you left us an example to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Lord, forgive me for giving my affections to things on earth that will not last. You gave me things on earth to enjoy, not to idolize and put them before you. I refocus my attention on things that are eternal; that will never fade. I prepare for your return because I do not know when you will come back. I give you the praise, glory, and honor in Jesus name! Amen.
It is good to examine yourself and ask the question “Is what I’m doing glorifying God?” It is great to have godly spiritual mentors to hold you accountable because they see what you don’t see.
Colossians 3:17 Amplified Version:17 Whatever you do [no matter what it is] in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus [and in dependence on Him], giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
God and the Holy Spirit will show believers our true hearts. Proverbs 16:2 NIV: All a person’s ways seem pure to them, but motives are weighed by the LORD.
David was a man after God’s own heart. In the last blog, it was brought out how David praised/ worshiped God, repented when he done wrong, and got back on the right track. One of the scriptures that came to me about David is Psalm 139:23-24 : 23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: 24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
That’s a powerful prayer to pray for God to search your heart. It maybe painful at times when God reveals the truth of your heart. However, you will go higher in your spiritual walk with God. Hebrews 12:11Message Version: At the time, discipline isn’t much fun. It always feels like it’s going against the grain. Later, of course, it pays off handsomely, for it’s the well-trained who find themselves mature in their relationship with God.
Every good and perfect gift comes from above; from God who made Heaven and Earth (James 1:17). When God created man, He said it was very good (Genesis 1:31). God created us for His glory (Isaiah 43:7)
The gifts God gave us, should be to glorify Him with them, with our whole being.
My mom said her father (my grandad) favorite song was: “To God Be The Glory.” Lyrics: Just let me live my life, Let it be pleasing, Lord to Thee, And if I gain any praise,Let it go to Calvary. To God Be The Glory, To God Be The Glory, To God Be the glory, for the things He has done” ” With is love His Blood He has saved me, with His power He has raised me.” ” To God be the glory for the things He has done. “
Let everything I do, glorify You!
Prayer: God, thank you for your mercy that is new every morning. I allow you to examine me and show me my true heart. God, shine light on areas that is not pleasing to you. Search me God and see if my intentions are to bring honor and glory to your name. Lead me in the way of everlasting life. Let everything I do in word or action, be to glorify you. I repent for doing things knowingly and unknowingly that does not bring glory to your name! I thank you God for continuing to mature me in my spiritual walk that I may go higher in you. I give you the praise, glory, and honor in Jesus name!
We learned from last blog that our time is now by speaking things in present tense to bring them into the now. Last week’s blog showed us that through prayer and thanksgiving, it will release our chains and complaining keeps us in bondage prolonging our time. What happens if we make an error or get off track? The good news is when we get off track, we can repent and get back on the right path. God used my Aunt Mary to give the phrase for the blog, which Pastor Gaines used in his message. The message ties in with the other two blogs. In his sermon Pastor Gaines said, “If you mess up, fess up.”
I John 1:9 NIV: 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13 King James Version He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.
Everyone needs grace and mercy because we are imperfect people who don’t get things right all the time. However, as believers we serve a perfect God who is merciful and faithful. He will have mercy on us when we own up to what we do and repent (change, to do the opposite of what was done). If we try to hide or blame someone else, it can keep us in bondage. Proverbs 28:13 states that we can’t prosper (succeed) if we don’t confess our wrong doing.
David was an imperfect man but God called him a man after His own heart. We know David for his praise, worship, and expression of his emotions to God. He also would repent to God when he had done wrong. In 2 Samuel 12, Prophet Nathan rebukes David by exposing his sin of taking someone else’s wife and having the man go to the front lines to die. He spoke in a parable and asked David what should be done to that man. David then said, “The man should die.” The prophet said “You are the man.” David quickly said “I have sinned against God.”
David repented and God forgave him. However, he did came under judgement for what he did by his child dying. His judgement would have been far worse if he had not repented. It could have been death. Thank God for his mercy!
Romans 8:1 says: There is now, no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus. We don’t have to be condemned once we repent and get back in line with the word of God. We serve a God that wipes our slate clean. Hallelujah!
If we mess up, fess up!
Prayer: God, I thank you for your grace and mercy that endures forever. I am thankful that when I mess up, I can go to you. God, I thank you that when I repent and confess my sins, you forgive me, have mercy on me, and wipe my slate clean. I can hold my head high knowing when I repent and get back in line with the word of God, I don’t have to walk around in condemnation. I praise you Lord! In Jesus name, Amen!
God gave me a prophetic word through my anointed Aunt Mary and I have held onto that word. In the last blog, I spoke about speaking things in the now and holding onto the word until it comes into the present. One way to bring something into the present is prayer and thanksgiving. I posted on Facebook about how I prayed for God to put a check into my spirit each time I say something out of line. Be careful what you pray for because you will receive just that. I was getting ready to complain to someone about what happened to me during the week and before I could say anything, a phrase came to me from Joyce Meyers: “You complain, you remain. You praise, you raise”. I got back in line quick and said okay God I hear you!
Most believers have heard the story of Moses and the Israelites in the wilderness for 40 years from Exodus 16, Numbers 11, and Numbers 14. What stood out to me the most was their complaining. They died in the wilderness without receiving the promise. We hold up our release through complaining. I told God thank you for correcting me because I do not want to remain in this state.
What does the word of God says about complaining?
Philippians 2:14-5 4 Do everything without complaining or arguing 15 so that you will be blameless and pure, children of God without any fault. But you are living with evil people all around you, who have lost their sense of what is right. Among those people you shine like lights in a dark world.
I Thessalonians 5:16–17 NIV:16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Refuse to stay in chains any longer by giving God thanks instead of complaining. Paul and Silas in Acts 16 were praying and singing praises to God while in prison, causing the prison to shake and the chains to break. They did exactly what 1 Thessalonians 5 said. They did the will of God and God worked on their behalf. Glory To God!
Example 1: You don’t like your boss or president.
Instead of complaining, say “Lord I thank you for changing the heart of our leader. You said the king’s heart is in the hands of God you turn it wherever you will (Proverbs 21:1)”. God deals with the judgement by replacing that person if they don’t repent.
Example 2: You don’t like your job.
Instead of saying “I can’t wait to leave this job”, say “I am thankful to have a place to work until God moves me to another assignment.”
Example 3: You experiencing sickness or illness.
Instead of complaining about it, say “I bless the Lord. I don’t forget His benefits. He heals all my sickness and forgive all my sins.” (Psalm 103).
Remember, our time is now and God is showing us how through prayer and thanksgiving. Make a decision to stay out of prison; to break free!
The one who complains, stays in chains!
Prayer: God, I thank you for your word that sets me free from any chains! God, I repent for complaining about situations in my life; that is not your will for me. You told me to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and in everything give thanks for this is your will for me. God, I want to do your will. Help me by continuing to put a check in my spirit when I am about to say something that will keep me in bondage. I don’t want to die like the people in the wilderness without getting what is promised to me by complaining. I choose today to give thanks in every situation by speaking the promise instead of the problem. I give you thanks in advance for my freedom in Jesus name! Amen.
Jesus said it is finished when He sacrificed His life. Everything is already done. The bible is like a use and care manual: it shows you how to navigate in life. Just like a use and care manual, everything is not written in it. The manufacturer of the product will have insight that is not in the manual. The same is with the bible. As we meditate the God’s word, God (the manufacturer), He will show us how to obtain everything in it.
2 Corinthians 6:2 says: Now is the time now is the day of salvation!
Hebrews 11:1 says: Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen
How are you speaking with your words? Most people who have been to school or teach knows about past, present, and future tense. If we are speaking on things in the past and continue to speak it, it will keep us in the past and we can’t move forward. If we are saying “I am going to get myself together one day” or “One day I will have this house”, it will stay there in the future. However, when you say I am a home owner, I am a entrepreneur I am in good health, etc……. it brings the future to the present which is Now!
When walking by faith, faith is in the present tense. We are the seed of Abraham as believers. If you don’t know Jesus, receive Him now; Romans10:9-10 will lead you to salvation. God gave Abraham a promise (Genesis 17:5) that He would be the father of many nations. He kept saying in the present tense “I am the father of many nations.” He spoke his future in present tense to bring it to the now.
As we meditate on God’s word day and night & continue speaking the word of God in the present tense because it is already done, God will give us what to do. James 1:5 NIV: says If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
God will show you how, your time is now!
Prayer:Heavenly Father, I thank you for your word you left me to lead and guide me through life. Lord, I come to you for wisdom on anything I don’t understand in your word because you are my creator, All knowing. God, you left us an example, Jesus. You left the Holy Spirit within me to lead and guide me. I repent for unbelief, disobedience, and the words I have spoken that was not in line with your character. God, I ask you to put a check in my spirit when I am out of line. My time is now. I speak what has already been done in the present to bring it to the now. I thank you in advance for the answer and the wisdom to obtain everything you have for me. I am the head not the tail. I am the lender not the borrower. I am prospering in every area of my life because my soul prospers. I am redeemed from the curse, and whatever I do succeeds with your help, God. I give you praise in Jesus name!
Decision: Final choice; conclusion (bring to an end)
Prison: State of confinement (held captive).
Whatever prison we may be facing (physical, financial or mental), in order to be free we have to make a final choice & bring to an end anything that is holding us back.
We must lay the axe to the root (Matthew 3:10) of what is causing us to be held captive. We can do it with the word of God.
Hebrews 4:12-13 Message Translation: His powerful Word is sharp as a surgeon’s scalpel, cutting through everything, whether doubt or defense, laying us open to listen and obey. Nothing and no one is impervious to God’s Word. We can’t get away from it—no matter what.
Sometimes the word of God can be cutting. It can show us up, leaving everything laying bare. But, if we allow it to do the corrective surgery on us, we will be better for it. The book of Proverbs is one of those books of the bible that will definitely cut you, show you up, and humble you, but you will gain wisdom. When we take heed to wisdom, we live longer and prosper in every aspect of our lives (Proverbs 3:16).
Remember when we continue in the word we know the truth and the truth sets us free. Who the Son sets free is free indeed. (John 8:31-36)
Make a Decision, To Stay Out of Prison!
Prayer: Lord, I praise you for setting me free by sending your Son Jesus to die on the Cross for me! I no longer have to be held captive by anything because Jesus paid it all by shedding His Blood for me. I make a final choice and bring to an end anything that is holding me captive by being obedient to your word. I allow the word of God to do surgery on me to expose anything that is holding me back from going higher in my walk with God. I stay with the word until I am free. I repent for allowing circumstances, distractions, things from my past, & fears to keep me in prison. I choose today to be free! I give you the honor and glory in Jesus name! Amen.
My dad would tell me to put a small amount in my plate when I was eating and if I wanted some more, I could get it. There have been times where I loaded my plate with too much food and couldn’t eat it all. My dad calls it “letting my eyes overload my gut.” I ended up throwing it away.
God has been dealing with me on meditating on a few particular passages of scripture and and once I am done with that, I will be ready for more. Sometimes we can be believing God for a lot of things. We jump from one thing to the next and get nowhere because we have too much on our spiritual plate. Just like the food that ends up going to waste, our spiritual food is wasted.
God gave me two passages of scripture to meditate on. As I started meditating throughout the day, God gave me instructions concerning my situation. It went from a written word to a rhema word (a spoken word) that was specific for me. I rejoiced in my spirit and put it into action. God then gave me another word once I obeyed the first instruction. God is directing me every step of the way.
John 8:31King James Version: 31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
The key is continue in the word until you get the manifestation. We have to stay committed to get it! (clink link to check out the blog post adamsfamilyinspirations.com 7/29/2018 Stay Committed, To Get It) I have read the word a few times but it took time before the revelation came. Sometimes it can be an instant revelation because you are at a level where you can digest it easily. Just like certain foods digest with no issues, some may not digest as easily. It may take several hours before we can digest it. But once we wait, we are ready to eat more food.
To digest, start with less!
Prayer: Thank you Lord for your wisdom it surpasses man’s wisdom. I get excited about your word because there are so many good things in it. I am now learning to stick with a little of your word at a time until revelation and change comes. I repent for not being diligent in your word. I thank you now that I continue in your word and it sets me free in every area of my life. In Jesus name! Amen.
