Know That God Will, If You Just Be Still

My power was out this past Tuesday evening. Wednesday morning Psalm 23 came to me. I begin to read it with my battery power fan and push light on praying that the power would come back on. Verse 2 and 3 jumped off the page at me. Psalm 23:2-3 Amplified Version: 2. He leads me beside the still and quiet waters. He refreshes and restores my soul (life); He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. A still small voice spoke to me “Be still and know that I am God; I will lead you through with stillness and quietness, your soul is restored and I will show you which way to go.” Make a practice when getting up early in the morning to just sit quiet and see what God has to say. Romans 4:17 came to me while being still: “Call things that be not as though they were.” I begin to speak to my situation and declared that my lights will be back on at 12. They came back on at 12. I rejoiced. The house remained cool and the sun stayed down until the power came back on. It was nothing but God.

Psalm 4:4 : When you are on your beds, search your hearts and be silent.

Psalm 46:10: 10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations,I will be exalted in the earth.”

1 Kings 19:11-13 Amplified Version: 11 So He said, “Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord was passing by, and a great and powerful wind was tearing out the mountains and breaking the rocks in pieces before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, [there was] an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. 12 After the earthquake, [there was] a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire, [there was] the sound of a gentle blowing. 13 When Elijah heard the sound, he wrapped his face in his mantle (cloak) and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”

Once you get a word from God, hold on to what He told you. It is easy to get anxious when we want things a certain way. However, God’s ways are higher than our ways and thoughts higher than our thoughts. Abraham, which was Abram at the time, and Sarah which was Sarai, didn’t wait on God. God told them they would have a child but they got anxious after waiting for a child. In Genesis 16, Sarai told Abram to sleep with the maid Hagar to conceive a child. Abram agreed with Sarai. Abram slept with Hagar and conceived. Hagar became full of pride and felt she was better than Sarai. Sarai blamed Abram for Hagar thinking she was better than her. Abram said Hagar is your servant. Do what you think is best. Sarai was cruel to Hagar and Hagar ran away. An angel spoke to Hagar stating that God will raise a mighty nation through her & to go back to to Abram’s house. She bore a son Ishmael. The Ishmaelites are Islamic. They are at war until today with Israel.

When a word from God or revelation comes to me, I get excited. I would be eager to tell someone. I remember the phrase my Aunt Mary told me that an anointed teacher of the gospel said: “Let your emotions subside and then you decide.” God would tell me to hold off and let me know what to release. I am still a work in progress. Thank God for the mentors in my life to correct and guide me. My dad would tell me “In your patience, possess your soul” (Luke 21:19). I am enjoying the journey to where God is taking me. The power being out allowed me to quiet myself down. It taught me to be still without all the noise of life. I was able to to sit and be still ; that is when God spoke to me.

Philippians 4:19 NIV: Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

At the Home of Martha and Mary

Luke 10:38-42As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. 40 But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”41 “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one.[a] Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.

Take time everyday to quiet down, be still, and get to know God. Let Him speak to you. Worship and praise God. Meditate and read the word of God. Once God speaks, hold on to what God tells you to do. Do not jump ahead of God and prolong your time and make a disaster of your life.

Know that God will, if you just be still!

Prayer: Thank you God for creating me and knowing me before I was knitted in my mother’s womb. I repent for being impatient, anxious, and allowing the things of life distract me. I be still and know that you are God. I am anxious for nothing but everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving ; I make my request known unto God. I let peace rule as umpire in my life. I quiet myself down so I can hear from God. I hold on to what you tell me and the word of God to get to the other side. Through faith and patience I inherit the promise. In Jesus name, Amen.

  1. JESUS… This was such a beautiful and timely word being I have felt the same in my heart and spirit regarding stillness. I love how Aunt Mary gave you such a guiding and wise principle of letting your emotions subside and then you decide. That blessed me tremendously. I also love what your father taught you regarding patience. You are much like me when it comes to being and getting so excited about the things of God to the point of you wanting to share instantly. May God continue to develop and refine us in and through His power, will, and holy fire!
