On People and Things, Do Not Rely. To God Draw Nigh!

God gave each and everyone of us a gift and purpose to fulfill His will on the earth. We all need each other. However, we do not want to become dependent on anyone other than God, our creator.

Jeremiah 17:5: This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

Philippians 1:3: For we who worship by the Spirit of God[b] are the ones who are truly circumcised. We rely on what Christ Jesus has done for us. We put no confidence in human effort.

David was a man after God’s own heart because he worshipped God and ran to Him with His trouble. Do not let the problem or concern you have linger more than one day. Go to God immediately and seek Him diligently. He is a very present help in the time of need and trouble. Seek God early and you will find Him.

Proverbs 8:17: 17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.

Jeremiah 29:13:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

God may seem far away when we have problems, but He is right there with us through it. All we have to do is hold on to His word and stay close to God.

James 4:8 King James Version: Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

James 4:8 Living Translation: And when you draw close to God, God will draw close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and let your hearts be filled with God alone to make them pure and true to him.

From Friday at 7PM until Sunday afternoon last week, we had a power outage in my area. God prepared me with Romans 5 that morning while spending time with him, about rejoicing in trying situations. God was with me through it. The house was cool, I slept better, and I spent time with God. The power finally came back on. At work I spoke with customers who had worst storms and power outage and I was able to feel what they were going through. Because of the scripture God gave me that morning, when I was tempted to complain, Romans 5 rose up in me to rejoice in trying situations. It taught me patience which was also in Romans 5. God is faithful.

On people and things, do not rely. To God draw nigh.

Prayer: Lord thank you for always being with me. I repent of relying on people and things. God you put people and things here on earth to help me. However, I do not depend on them, my trust is in you. The person or thing is just a vessel you use to work through. All the glory and praise belongs to you. I trust you with every part of my life. I draw near to you and you draw near to me. In Jesus name! Amen!

  1. Glory to God for the preparation and encouragement God gave you in Romans 5! My home lost power on yesterday and did not come back on until this morning some hours ago. I remember first feeling frustrated at the loss of power in my home because I was in the midst of doing weekly chores and cleaning. It was in the frustration of my mind when God said to me through Holy Spirit said to me “Your home lost power but You did not lose power because your power rests in my power”. From that moment forward, I found peace, patience, and strength in hiding that word in my heart and spending time with the Lord. God is soooooo good and faithful! I am drawing nigh to The One who sits up on high!
