The phrase came to me from a movie my aunt sent me, titled “The Last Appeal.” The prisoners were on death row. It made me think about what happens when we leave this earth. If you died tonight, would heaven be your home? Some people don’t believe in hell and believe it is a scare tactic. Why would a loving God send anyone to hell? Hell was made for the devil and his demons, not us. God gives us a choice, either life or death, blessing or cursing.
Deuteronomy 30:19 CSB Version: I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live,
2 Peter 3:9 New Living Translation: 9 The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed but wants everyone to repent.
John 3:16-21 Message Version: 16-18 “This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because that person failed to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.19-21 “This is the crisis we’re in: God-light streamed into the world, but men and women everywhere ran for the darkness. They went for the darkness because they were not interested in pleasing God. Everyone who makes a practice of doing evil, addicted to denial and illusion, hates God-light and won’t come near it, fearing a painful exposure. But anyone working and living in truth and reality welcomes God-light so the work can be seen for the God-work it is.”
Someone asked me how a loving God can let us go to hell. It made me think. God gave me the answer. I heard a subtle voice say, “I am the Prince of Peace,” To keep the peace, I had to let Lucifer go even though I loved Lucifer. He self-destructed on his own because He wanted to be God. He rebelled and took some other angels with him. God was the one who created Lucifer. We self-destruct on our own. God doesn’t send us to hell. We do it to ourselves when we reject Jesus/God, The Heavenly Father.
I was baptized at six and grew up in the church. However, I was unsure about my salvation. I was doing religious acts, but I was empty and under condemnation. I was not pleasant to get along with because I was judgmental and self-righteous, because I was under condemnation myself. I cried out to God at 18 and told God I did not want to live this way anymore. Finally, I got assurance of my salvation and started to fellowship with God on a day-to-day basis. God transformed me gradually as I allowed the word to correct and guide me. I am free. Once you are in Christ, there is no condemnation (Romans 8:1). If you mess up, repent and ask God to help you! Continue to say, “I die daily to my old nature.” A righteous man falls seven times and gets back up (Proverbs 24:16).
If you have accepted Jesus and have lost your way in sin, repent and return to God. God will restore you and wipe your slate clean. Mark 8:36 Amplified Version: For what does it benefit a man to gain the whole world [with all its pleasures], and forfeit his soul? Solomon gained wisdom, wealth, and women; He allowed women to turn his heart away from God and serve other gods. At the end of his life, he said it was useless. Solomon realized that enjoying the fruits of labor, enjoying family, and, most important, that we can’t do it without God.
The destination of your eternity, do you know where? Not knowing can be a scare!
Prayer: Lord, I confess I am a sinner; I repent of my sins. I receive you into my heart. I believe Jesus died, was buried, rose, and lived. Thank you, Jesus; I am in a new family! I am a new person. I die daily to my old nature by renewing my mind to the word of God! Now I have eternal life with Jesus. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
