Stay Lit With The Holy Spirit!

Most people use the term “lit” when something is exciting, or when they get a buzz from drinking or drugs. As believers in Jesus Christ, we can stay “lit” by allowing the Holy Spirit to transform us. The phrase came about by spending time with God during my quiet time.

We can stay “lit” by being in the presence of God, worshipping and praising God for who He is.

Psalm 16:11 NIV Version: 11 You tell me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence,

with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

We can stay lit by being filled with the Spirit. It is better than getting drunk or getting high off drugs, which is temporary. God’s high is everlasting with no adverse effects. It transforms us inside and out.

Ephesians 5:18 Christian Standard Version: Don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless living, but be filled by the Spirit.

We can stay lit by the lifestyle we live. As believers in Jesus, our lifestyle should resemble the fruits of the Spirit. We can have peace in the storm by trusting in God. We can walk in love even when someone does evil to us. We can have joy during pain. We can endure challenges when our hope is in God. People will know you are of God without quoting scriptures because the evidence/fruit will show in our lives.

Matthew 5:18 Common English Version: 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so they can see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.

My Aunt Mary would say, “Judge a tree by the fruit it bears” (Matthew 7:20). Believers bear the fruits of the Spirit. Matthew 5:22-23 Amplified Version: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such things, there is no law.

On Wednesday, I saw a faith-based movie on Tubi titled “Wake Up Call.” At first, I turned it off when I saw it was a low-budget film. However, the Holy Spirit led me to watch it again. It was a lady who went to church every Sunday but during the week partied, got drunk, lived with her boyfriend she was not married to, and behaved like she did not know God. Her parents tried talking to her, but she got offended and angry. Her Father kept praying for her, gave her over to God, and walked the life of God out before her. She came home drunk one night with her friends who did not attend church. One of her friends told her, “You are just like the rest of us. The only difference is you just get up early and go to church after staying up all night partying.” She got angry and told her to leave. It was her wake-up call. She realized her friend was telling the truth. It was a wake-up call for her to change her life.

God wants us to enjoy life as believers. However, our lifestyle should show the love of God and the fruit of the Spirit. Our light should shine so bright that people should want to know about the God we serve. We are in the world, but not of the world. When we sow to the flesh, we reap corruption; but, when we sow to the Spirit, we have life and peace (Galatians 6:8). Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 15:50). It means we can only inherit the things of God through the Spirit with faith, hope and trust in God not through our emotions/feelings. Don’t settle for a temporary high. Taste and see that the Lord is good (Psalm 34:8). Lamentations 3:22-23 Easy Read Version: 22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Stay lit with God’s Spirit!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving me the Holy Spirit. Without you and the Holy Spirit dwelling in me, I can do nothing. I let my light shine so people can see your goodness and glorify my Father, which is in heaven. I repent for sowing to my flesh & reaping corruption. I sow to the spirit and reap life and peace. I bear fruit by spending time in the word of God and staying in your presence. The love of God flows through me and draws people into the kingdom of God. May God be glorified in my life. In Jesus’ name! Amen!
