The phrase came to my dad as we were having a conversation about God. Where two or three are gathered in His name God is in the midst. Fear has held a lot of us back from stepping out on faith and trusting in God. God is saying get out of your comfort zone and trust me to see you through. God tells us to do things that are out of the norm. We either have to trust Him, step out in faith, or stay stagnant.
Matthew 14:22-33 NIV Version: 25 Shortly before dawn, Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said and cried out in fear.27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” 32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Peter got confirmation that it was Jesus walking on water. God will give you confirmation that it is Him leading/speaking, whether it is in a dream, through a speaker, or a magazine article/blog. Peter started out in faith, walking on water, but as soon as the wind came, he was afraid. A lot of us follow what God says, and when the challenges come, we get in fear. We give up and panic. God is saying to you to build up your faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. We have to meditate in the world day and night to stay strong. Peter started sinking and cried for God to save Him, and immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught Peter. We can cry out to God to help us when we are sinking in despair. He is a very present help in trouble.
Step out of the boat! God will keep you afloat!
Prayer: Lord, thank you. Your mercies are new every morning. I step out on faith through confirmation from you. When challenges arise, I look to you, the author and finisher of my faith. I repent for being afraid and sinking in despair. I cry out to you when I catch myself slipping, and you rescue me speedily. I thank you, God, you are a present help in trouble. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
