As believers, we’ve heard a lot about the power of speaking the word of God to manifest and bring heaven to earth. The tongue has power that can change the atmosphere (good or bad), and the devil knows it. We all have not been perfect when it comes to what we say. We need the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us with our tongue. The Holy Spirit is our teacher. God led me to James 3 concerning the tongue one morning. The book of James mainly deals with the tongue.
James 1:19: Be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to get angry
James 1:26 Amplified Version: 26 If anyone thinks himself to be religious (piously observant of the external duties of his faith) and does not bridle his tongue but deludes his own heart, this person’s religious service is worthless (futile, barren).
James 3:5-12 Message Version: 5-6 It only takes a spark to set off a forest fire. A careless or wrongly placed word out of your mouth can do that. By our speech, we can ruin the world, turn harmony into chaos, throw mud on a reputation, send the whole world up in smoke and go up in smoke with it, smoke right from the pit of hell.7-10 This is scary: You can tame a tiger but can’t tame a tongue—it’s never been done. The tongue runs wild, a wanton killer. We bless God our Father; with the same tongues, we curse the very men and women he made in his image. Curses and blessings out of the same mouth!10-12 My friends, this can’t go on. Does a spring not gush fresh water one day and brackish the next? Apple trees don’t bear strawberries, do they? Raspberry bushes don’t bear apples, do they? You’re not going to dip into a polluted mud hole and get a cup of clear, cool water, are you?
Live Well, Live Wisely:
James 3:13-17 Message Version” 13-16 Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s how you live, not how you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom—animal cunning, devilish plotting. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart, and everyone ends up at the others’ throats.17-18 Real wisdom, God’s wisdom, begins with a holy life and is characterized by getting along with others. It is gentle and reasonable, overflowing with mercy and blessings, not hot one day and cold the next, not two-faced. You can develop a healthy, robust community that lives right with God and enjoy its results only if you do the hard work of getting along with each other and treating each other with dignity and honor.
Let us examine ourselves. Use the tongue to uplift and encourage each other into good works. The primary thing is love because it fulfills the law of God. That’s how people know we are of God. Read 1 Corinthians 13 every day to perfect the love walk. Whatever seed we sow (good or bad) will multiply. Repent when you speak out of line and ask God to help you. Ask God to put a check on your spirit concerning your mouth. The Holy Spirit has corrected me many times. When situations arise, ask God what you should say before opening your mouth. In your quietness is your strength (Isaiah 30:15).
Ephesian 4:29 Easy Read Version: 29 When you talk, don’t say anything wrong. But say the good things that people need—whatever will help them grow stronger. Then what you say will be a blessing to those who hear you.
Matthew 12:26=37 Easy Read 36 I tell you that everyone will have to answer for all the wild things they have said. This will happen on the day of judgment. 37 Your words will be used to judge you. What you have said will show whether you are right or whether you are guilty.”
You’re a mature one when you master the tongue!
Prayer: God, thank you for seeing us through a pure heart. God, help us as believers to see people, situations, and things through our eyes. God, I repent for saying something to slander, hurt, gossip, and damage people. God, help me with my tongue. Put a check on my spirit when I am speaking out of line. I am quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Let my life speak louder than what my words say. God, I let you be glorified through me. I meditate, read, and speak my word to uproot bad trees in my life. Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. Lord, I fill my heart with your word. I give you the praise, glory, and honor! I thank you for the victory in Jesus’ name!.
