Words have more power when you know the meaning, including the common terms we use daily.
Finish: To come to an end.
Diminish: To lessen authority, dignity, or reputation.
When Jesus sacrificed His life for us on the cross, he ended the curse and lessened the authority/ reputation of sin and Satan’sSatan’s power.
We must receive what God has already done for us by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross and bear all the ugly sins for us.
When Jesus said it is finished, that means we do not have to put up with curses any longer.
Galatians 3:13 Easy Read Version says 13 The law says we are under a curse for not always obeying it. But Christ took away that curse. He changed places with us and put himself under that curse. The Scriptures say, “Anyone who is hung on a tree is under a curse. 14 Because of what Jesus Christ did, the blessing God promised to Abraham was given to all people. Christ died so we could have the Spirit God pledged to by believing in him.
By accepting Jesus into our life (Romans 10:9-10), we have access to the benefits of Jesus dying on the cross for us. We are no longer under the curse of sin because Jesus took that for us on the cross. Even if we sin, if we confess it and start on the journey of letting God transform us through His word-, we are no longer guilty or under condemnation.
Romans 8:1-4 Easy Read Version says 8, So now Anyone who is in Christ Jesus is not judged guilty. 2 That is because in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made you free. It made you free from the law that brings sin and death. 3 The law was without power because it was made weak by our sinful selves. But God did what the law could not do: He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life that everyone else uses for sin. God sent him to be an offering to pay for sin. So, God used human life to destroy sin. 4 He did this to be right, just as the law said we must be. Now we do not live following our sinful selves. We live following the Spirit.
Colossians 2:13-14 Living Translation says 13 You were dead in sins, and your sinful desires were not yet cut away. Then he gave you a share in the very life of Christ, for he forgave all your sins, 14 and blotted out the charges proved against you, the list of his commandments which you had not obeyed. He took this list of sins and destroyed it by nailing it to Christ’s cross. 15 In this way, God took away Satan’s power to accuse you of sin, and God openly displayed to the whole world Christ’s triumph at the cross where your sins were all taken away.
Hallelujah! Thank God for the blood of Jesus! We stand not guilty because of the sacrifice Jesus made for us.
It is finished! The curse is diminished!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for redeeming me from the curse by sending your Son Jesus to die for my sins. Jesus, I receive what you finished for me on the cross. I give you the honor and praise. In Jesus’ name! Amen.
