The Refined Mind

The mind truly is a battlefield and it is our responsibility what we accept and what we reject.

We have good thoughts and bad thoughts. God gives us a choice.

Deuteronomy 30:19 New International Version 19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you; that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live

What is the meaning of “refined” ?

Webster dictionary meaning

1: to free (something, such as metal, sugar, or oil) from impurities or unwanted material

2: to free from moral imperfection : ELEVATE

3: to improve or perfect by pruning or polishing

5: to free from what is coarse, vulgar, or uncouth

intransitive verb

1: to become pure or perfected

2: to make improvement by introducing subtleties or distinctions

We are transformed by renewing our minds to the word of God.

2 Corinthians 10:3-5

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.

Webster’s definition of  “captive” held under control of.

We have control of what we dwell on.

The blog “steer clear, it can cause you to veer,” mentioned dwelling on negative or evil thoughts is like eating of the forbidden tree like Adam and Eve did.

According to the word of God as a person thinks, that is what he/she becomes.

Just like certain foods you eat can have an effect on your body, things you dwell on has effect on your behavior.

Examine yourself, if anything that is negative, immoral, or ungodly confront it. Be honest with yourself and ask God to help you.

Romans 7:18 Amplified  Version 18 For I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my flesh [my human nature, my worldliness—my sinful capacity]. For the willingness [to do good] is present in me, but the doing of good is not.

We have a spiritual side, but we also have a flesh that we have to put under control. If we don’t judge/examine ourselves daily, then we can come under judgement. I would rather judge my own actions that are not good than it coming out to the forefront and others judge me.

Romans 8:6-8  Amplified  Version  Now the mind of the flesh is death [both now and forever—because it pursues sin]; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace [the spiritual well-being that comes from walking with God—both now and forever]; the mind of the flesh [with its sinful pursuits] is actively hostile to God. It does not submit itself to God’s law, since it cannot, and those who are in the flesh [living a life that caters to sinful appetites and impulses] cannot please God.

If we mess up, repent and start back over again. There is no condemnation to those that are in Christ Jesus. That means once you confess your sin and make a decision to get back on track, it is covered by the blood of Jesus. It is as if you never sinned. Thank God for the blood of Jesus!

An atmosphere of life and peace is with a refined mind.
