Your Kingdom Will Crumble, If You Don’t Stay Humble

Most of you all know the saying: “pride goes before the destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall” This statement is true whether you are in a higher or lower position.

What helps me to remain humble is self-examination.

1 Corinthian 11:31-32 Amplified Version says but if we evaluated and judged ourselves honestly [recognizing our shortcomings and correcting our behavior], we would not be judged. 32 But when we [fall short and] are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined [by undergoing His correction] so that we will not be condemned [to eternal punishment] along with the world.

What also helps me to stay humble is having someone I am accountable to. My family and friends keep me in check. It is good to have people in your life that will correct you and give godly advice. Other people can see what you cannot see.

Anyone in leadership or under leadership should be accountable to someone.

1 Peter 5:1-6 Amplified Version says

Therefore, I strongly urge the elders among you [pastors, spiritual leaders of the church], as a fellow elder and as an eyewitness [called to testify] of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory that is to be revealed: shepherd and guide and protect the flock of God among you, exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not [motivated] for shameful gain, but with wholehearted enthusiasm; not lording it over those assigned to your care [do not be arrogant or overbearing], but be examples [of Christian living] to the flock [set a pattern of integrity for your congregation]. And when the Chief Shepherd (Christ) appears, you will receive the [conqueror’s] unfading crown of glory. Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant’s apron], for God is opposed to the proud [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], but He gives grace to the humble.

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God [set aside self-righteous pride], so that He may exalt you [to a place of honor in His service] at the appropriate time.

Finally, accepting correction from others keeps you humble.

Proverbs 1:5 says A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:

God gives grace/mercy to those who humble themselves and ask for help.

Self-examination, being accountable to someone, and listening to wisdom/correction keeps you humble. We remain on top through humility.

Your kingdom will crumble, if you don’t stay humble!

Prayer: Lord I thank you for sacrificing your only Son for us which is the ultimate act of humility and love. God you resist the proud but gives grace to the humble. God, I repent where I acted out of pride. I humble myself through by judging myself, and receiving correction through spiritual mentors, I thank you Lord for your grace and mercy. As I humble myself you will exalt me. I give you the praise and glory in Jesus’ name!
